Do you own a business? Do not miss out on the opportunity to list your shop or company location with Google My Business. Customers will use this information to find their way around town and straight to your establishment. All you have to do is add your shop on Google Maps.
There are more than 200 million places listings on Google Maps nationwide. Your shop must be one of them if you want to generate foot traffic to your business. Use this step-by-step guide to get your business on the map!
Google's search engine is the most popular one on the internet.
It's not just about having a website. To get your business listed in search engine results, Google needs an accurate list of your company and its domain name. This information includes social media pages like Facebook or Twitter.
It’s a good idea to get listed on less popular search engines before signing up with Google. The first step is registering with Bing Webmaster Tools to help fix any errors found during their web crawl. Next, register through Yahoo Site Explorer. This ensures that both engines will be able to obtain information from your website regularly without charge, even if you don't have a site yet.
Once you have listed your business with the less-used search engines, you should take the following six steps to add your shop on Google Maps.
Start your Google My Business account and get listed for free. Getting on the front page of any search engine is tough, but it's a lot easier if you're already there! You can create an account at google.com/business by clicking Sign Up, or sign in if you already have a Google My Business account.
From the dashboard, click on the menu icon. It will look like three horizontal stripes in the upper left-hand corner. From the menu, find and click "Add a new location."
The next step is to add your business name and address. You will receive a prompt that will walk you through this step. Once you have entered the pertinent information, click "Next."
The next prompt you receive will be to drop a pin at the location of your business on Google Maps. Make sure you zoom in so that you get the exact location pinned on the map.
Next, there will be a series of prompts that ask about your business category, phone number, and website details. Some of this information might have been automatically filled in, but you can edit the info as needed.
The final step will take a little longer to complete. That is because Google wants to confirm your address. They will do this by sending you a notification in the mail with a PIN that you will enter to verify that your business address is valid.
Once you have received this letter (about a week later), log back into your Google My Business dashboard and enter that information.
Once you have taken these steps to list your business on Google Maps, engage with those who visit your listing. Respond to any reviews that you receive, and answer questions that people may ask about your establishment.
Now that your business is listed, you may have some questions about what happens next. Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions about Google My Business:
Claiming a business on Google is an easy way to get found by potential customers. To claim your business, search for it in the Search box, and then click “Own this Business."
After that, you’ll need either: 1) A verified phone number or 2) Your company email address associated with your existing account.
You might not be on the map if you don't know how to find yourself. But that's what Google Maps is for – to help your business get seen on Maps.
Simply type in your address, and you'll see a preview of all nearby businesses, including yours (if it was already added). The search results will show up as soon as you enter the information.
Google Maps is an exceptional tool for finding your way in the world, but it's not always up to date. It features real-time data more often than you think, though there are still times when a street view can be outdated by one to three years.
The most common reason why your business is not showing up on Google Maps is that you lack the authority to set the location associated with the business listing. If this happens, then by default, Google assumes that your location should be near or inside another one of its approved establishments, known as a “place marker."
